Over 900 Australian schools already use my Young Leaders Program to train their student leaders.

Program Extend takes this popular program further by giving the chance for every student to develop their leadership skills at home and at school. It also has a personal development dimension to it as well.

Program Extend provides recognition and encouragement for children to extend themselves in areas of leadership and personal development. It is designed to build on many of the learning experiences children already have rather than require them to undertake a bunch of new activities.

Program Extend focuses on these five leadership and personal development areas:

1. Speaking and communication
2. Organisation and teamwork
3. Service at school, at home and in the community
4. Personal improvement
5. Physical endeavour

Program Extend challenges students to complete activities in each of the above five areas to achieve their silver star.  Points have been allocated to different activities according to their degree of difficulty.

Children are encouraged to choose from a variety of activities that suit their interests and those available within the school curriculum.

Here are some examples of activities that students can do:

• Give a 5 minute prepared oral presentation in front of a group about an area of study, an interest or topic of interest to the listeners.

• Be a reliable daily monitor or helper on roster for a week or weekly monitor or helper over a five week period.

• Organise a learning activity, program or offer assistance over two hours or two distinct sessions.

• Work on physical fitness continuously over a four week period.

• Learn to play a new song or tune on a musical instrument, completing a new complex piece of art, achieving a new level in martial arts or learning a difficult physical activity.

• Help at home for a minimum of 20 minutes a day each day over a two week period without being reminded.
