2. Create lunchtime ‘Pop-Up’ coordinators
Create “Micro-Leadership” roles that don’t require a badge. Invite Year 4 and 5 students to volunteer as “Equipment Managers” or “Game Referees” for one week at a time.

3. Use the ‘Big Idea’ suggestion box
Place a suggestion box in the middle/upper-school corridor specifically for Year 4s and 5s.

4. Hold public speaking ‘Soapbox’ sessions
During class time, create a “Soapbox Friday” where students have 60 seconds to speak on a topic they care about—anything from “Why we should have more art” to “The best way to play handball.”
Building this “bravery muscle” early is essential for future captaincy applications.
5. Lead community service micro-projects
Encourage small groups of students to lead a mini-initiative, like a “Clean Up the Oval” Friday or a “Book Swap” morning.
By focusing on service rather than status, they learn that the best leaders are those who serve their community without needing a title.
